Navagio Beach in Greece
You can get to some of the most picturesque corners of the planet only by water – on a yacht or boat. Among them is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – Navagio.
Impressive unspoilt sandy beach is located in the inaccessible bay of the Greek Zakynthos, part of the Ionian Islands. It received its name, meaning “shipwreck”, from the events that took place here in 1983 and whose echo still serves as one of the most unusual sights of these places. It was here that in an attempt to avoid persecution by the authorities, the smuggling vessel suddenly ran aground. Subsequently, during one of the severe storms, the ship was washed ashore, and so far on Navajo beach you can see its rusted skeleton, reminding that the sea does not forgive mistakes.

Nature regularly took care of the inaccessibility of this heavenly corner of the planet for people, surrounding Navajo beach with majestic limestone cliffs of various heights: from the smallest at 45 m to huge cliffs, over 200 m high. Base jumpers perform their jumps from one of the coolest cliffs in the summer. The conditions for such extreme enthusiasm are not simple here, so tragic cases are not uncommon. But if you confine yourself to an interesting pastime without extreme sports, then you can visit one of the highest points of the island near the monastery of St. George, where the observation deck is located. Climbing it is not so easy, but it’s worth it, because from the height a stunning view of the beach and surroundings opens.
Navagio beach in Greece
Navagio beach is often depicted on postcards and in tourist avenues as one of the most striking sights of Greece, and curiously, even such popular Greek sights as the Acropolis and Parthenon attract tourists less than this small but incredibly picturesque beach.
Navaggio is absolutely a wild beach, so you can’t count on a civilized vacation with sun loungers and umbrellas. But it is precisely in such isolation from civilization that the attractiveness of this place lies.
ships near navajo beach
In stormy weather, approaching the rocky coast of Navajo Beach is undesirable, because there is a good chance of repeating the fate of the smuggled ship sunk here. Perhaps, for this reason as well, due to its certain danger to ships, this bay got its name.
Picturesque rocks with bizarre outlines, clear waters and white sands give this Greek beach a special charm. But not only beach vacations are attractive Navajo. Here you can find more exciting entertainment. For example, admire the huge sea turtles that sail to the island of Zakynthos from the African continent to take care of the reproduction of their offspring.

Visiting Navagio beach, you should also admire the neighboring attraction – the Blue Caves located near Cape Skinari, named after the incredibly bright blue waters that wash them. This color is due to the saturation of the water with minerals that fall into them when the limestone rocks erode.

Particularly picturesque landscapes of Navajo beach in the rays of sunset and dawn. At such moments, it seems that the myths of Ancient Greece come to life, and one can unwittingly believe that the gods descended from heaven for heavenly relaxation on earth in this amazing corner, which retained the original charm and echoes of antiquity.
